Fenmezoditiaz is presented in mesoionic forms. These forms may be ex- pressed in different isoelectronic formulae, each having the formal positive and negative charges on different atoms (as shown below). The present invention extends to all representative isoelectronic structures of compounds of formula I.

Compounds of formula (I) can be prepared analogously to the methods described by Holyoke et al. in WO 2009/099929 (Scheme 1), from appropriately substituted compounds (III).
