Commercialization Commentary :

Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd., Japan has filed a PCT patent application (EP1122244A1; Est. Exp.: Feb 02, 2021 (Product Patent Family) covering Epyrifenacil long back in 2001. The compound patent is going to expire on Feb 02, 2021; however, data exclusivity and supplementary protection certificate may increase patent life a few more years.

Sumitomo is continuously filing method of use, combination (mixture patents) patents to protect their interest.

BASF has filed a PCT patent application on Epyrifenacil polymorph (Form A) in 2018 (WO2018178039A1), there are various mixture patents from BASF, wherein Epyrifenacil as mixture partner is considered.

Syngenta also filed a process patent in 2007.

These facts show Sumitomo and BASF are interested to protect IP near to Epyrifenacil as they are continuously patent applications on Epyrifenacil.
