The Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIBRC) has recently issued approvals and decisions regarding regulatory applications submitted by agrochemical companies. These approvals play a vital role in facilitating the introduction of innovative pest-control solutions in the agricultural sector. Below are the key highlights:
1. Bayer CropScience Secures Label Expansion for Sugarcane Use
Bayer CropScience Ltd. received approval for the label expansion of Tembotrione 34.4% SC under Section 9(3) of the Insecticides Act. The herbicide, now approved for controlling a range of troublesome weeds—including Brachiaria reptans, Dactyloctenium aegyptium, and Digitaria sanguinalis—in sugarcane crops, will be registered subject to the fixation of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs).
2. BASF India Gains Nod for Apple Disease Control
BASF India Ltd. was granted approval for a label expansion of its fungicidal combination Fluxapyroxad 250 g/l + Pyraclostrobin 250 g/l SC for use on apple crops. The formulation has been cleared for the management of premature leaf fall, Alternaria leaf spot, and powdery mildew, providing orchardists with broader protection tools during critical growing periods.
3. Sumitomo Chemicals’ Clothianidin Approved for Rice Pest Control
Sumitomo Chemicals India Ltd. achieved approval for label expansion of Clothianidin 0.5% GR, specifically for combating pests such as stem borer (Scirpophaga incertulas), leaf folder (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis), and hoppers on rice crops. The decision emphasizes the importance of targeted pest control in a crop that is central to the Indian diet and economy.
4. ADAMA India Receives Green Light for Broad-Spectrum Insecticide
ADAMA India Pvt. Ltd. was approved for the indigenous manufacture of Chlorantraniliprole 15% + Emamectin benzoate 7.5% SC. The formulation will be deployed against a wide array of pests across multiple crops including Bengal gram, red gram, rice, and soybean, subject to MRL fixation. This move reinforces domestic capability in producing high-efficacy insecticides.
5. UPL Ltd. Gains Multiple Product Approvals
UPL Ltd., secured two critical registrations. The first approval was for the indigenous manufacture of Azoxystrobin 4.5% + Mancozeb 67.5% + Cyproconazole 3.0% WG, a triple-mode fungicide targeting diseases in rice, black gram, and chilli crops.
Additionally, UPL obtained registration for Acetamiprid 19.5% + Chlorantraniliprole 19.5% FS, aimed at controlling key pests in maize such as shoot fly, fall armyworm, and aphids. Both formulations are subject to MRL establishment, a standard regulatory safeguard.
6. PI Industries Approved for Technical Manufacturing of Pyroxasulfon
PI Industries Ltd. received clearance for the technical indigenous manufacture of Pyroxasulfon technical 98.20% w/w min., an important herbicide component known for its role in pre-emergent weed control in cereals.
