Summary : Apresa, a premium pre-emergent herbicide for various crops with an exclusive combination of active chemicals (Flumioxazin + S-metolachlor), was introduced by ADAMA in Brazil.
About Apresa
Active Chemicals Ingredients : Flumioxazin and S-metolachlor
Target : The product’s primary focus is the soybean crop, which is increasingly vulnerable to the weeds Digitaria insularis and Eleusine indica.
These are two of the most prominent invaders of Brazilian soybean crops and harm the proper development of the crop, requiring control even before they appear.
a. Flumioxazin
- CAS-RN : 103361-09-7
- IUPAC :2-(7-fluoro-3,4-dihydro-3-oxo-4-prop-2-ynyl-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-6-yl)cyclohex-1-ene-1,2-dicarboxamide
- Indication : Herbicide
- Chemical Class : Dicarboximide herbicide
- Mode of Action : Flumioxazin works by inhibition of protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO), an enzyme that is important for the synthesis of chlorophyll . In other words, flumioxazin causes interference and halts the plants’ production of chlorophyll. Treated plants will respond quickly to treatment and rapidly decompose.
- Description : Flumioxazin is a herbicide active ingredient that can work that is used as an agricultural or aquatic herbicide. It is systemic, meaning it can be applied to foliage or root and be absorbed and move throughout the target plant. Flumioxazin is a yellow to slightly brown solid that is practically insoluble in water.
b. S-metolachlor
- CAS RN: 87392-12-9
- IUPAC: 2-chloro-N-(2-ethyl-6-methylphenyl)- N-[(2S)-1-methoxypropan-2- yl]acetamide
- Indication : Herbicide
- Chemical Class : Chloroacetanilide Herbicides
- Mechanism of Action (MOA): VLCFA synthesis inhibition (very long chain fatty acid). The mode of action for this class is predominantly
- Description : Metolachlor is a broad spectrum herbicide used for general weed control in many agricultural food and feed crops (primarily corn, soybeans and sorghum), and on lawns and turf, ornamental plants, trees, shrubs and vines, rights of way, fencerows and hedgerows, and in forestry.
These weeds occurs throughout the crop cycle, but it is in early development where the impact on productivity is highest.
As a result, says ADAMA, an “effective pre-emergence management is necessary so that the producer does not have a headache later on with productivity losses, as this can reach 45% with bitter grass, if not controlled, for example.”
“In recent harvests, there has been a significant increase in the adoption of weed control measures, mainly due to resistance to actives that are used on a large scale, in addition to weed species that have become more relevant, making control difficult, that requires preventive management”, says João Ibelli, manager of Portfolio – Herbicides at ADAMA.
ADAMA positions itself as a company “totally focused on technology, which invests more than US$ 10 million/year in Research and Development in Brazil alone.”
