Summary :
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Administration (APVMA) has proposed approval of Bayer CropScience Pvt Ltd’s fungicide Xivana Prime 20 SC, which contains 20 g/l of the new active ingredient fluoxapiproline in a suspension concentrate formulation.
About Xivana Prime 20 SC
- Active Ingredient -Fluoxapiproline
- IUPAC:2-{(5RS)-3-[2-(1-{[3,5-bis(difluoromethyl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]acetyl}-4-piperidyl)thiazol-4-yl]-4,5-dihydroisoxazol-5-yl}-3-chlorophenyl methanesulfonate
- Mechanism of Action (MOA): Inhibition of oxysterol binding protein (OSBP).OSBP fungicides are active against oomycete fungi and used for the control of Phytophthora and downy mildews of numerous crops. OSBPIs inhibit an oxysterol binding protein (OSBP) homologue. Oxysterol binding proteins are implicated in the movement of lipids between membranes, among other processes. Inhibiting OSBP may disrupt other processes in the fungal cell, such as signaling, maintaining cell membranes, and the formation of more complex lipids that are essential for the cell to survive.
- CAS RN:1360819-11-9
- Indication: FUNGICIDE
Xivana Prime 20 SC Fungicide is to be applied at 37.5 to 50 mL/100 L in grapevines for the control of downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola). No more than 2 applications of Xivana Prime 20 SC Fungicide may be applied to grapevines per growing season with the last application no later than pre-bunch closure.
The APVMA Chemistry section has evaluated the chemistry of the active constituent fluoxapiprolin and associated product Xivana Prime 20 SC Fungicide, including the identification, physicochemical properties, manufacturing process, quality control procedures, stability, batch analysis results and analytical methods and found them to be acceptable. Based on a review of the chemistry and manufacturing details, the registration of Xivana Prime 20 SC Fungicide, and approval of the active constituent fluoxapiprolin, are supported from a chemistry perspective.
The APVMA invites comment from 5 April 2022 to 3 May 2022 on whether approval of the active constituent and registration of the product should be granted.
The APVMA is able to consider comments relating to the legislative grounds, including:
- occupational health and safety
- public health
- chemistry and manufacture
- residues in food
- environmental safety
- trade
- efficacy and target crop safety.
