BASF Launches Diadem(Mefentrifluconazole 100 g/l+ Fluxapyroxad 50 g/l) Fungicide to Protect Sugar Beet in Germany

Basf

Diadem, a highly efficient new fungicide from BASF, not only provides thorough and dependable disease protection but also enables active resistance management against a number of leaf diseases that pose a threat to the sugar beetroot crop.

Diadem  is a systemic fungicide with protectant and curative properties for disease control in winter wheat, spring wheat, durum wheat, spelt wheat, winter barley, spring barley, winter oats, spring oats, winter rye, spring rye, winter triticale and spring triticale.
Diadem has two new active ingredients in sugar beet, Xemium® and Revysol®.

About Diadem

Active Ingredient : Mefentrifluconazole 100 g/l + Fluxapyroxad 50 g/l
 a. Mefentrifluconazole

Mefentrifluconazole Structure

  • Description-Mefentrifluconazole can be used to control a variety of fungal diseases including powdery mildew of grapes, Alternaria diseases in potatoes and Cercospora diseases of corn and soybeans. It is a member of monochlorobenzenes, a member of triazoles, a tertiary alcohol, an aromatic ether and a member of (trifluoromethyl)benzenes.
  • IUPAC: 2-[4-(4-chlorophenoxy)-2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)propan-2-ol
  • Mechanism of Action (MOA): Inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis, by inhibition of C14-demethylase (SBI Class I)
  • CAS RN: 1417782-03-6
  • CHEMICAL CLASS: Fungicides (Conazole Fungicides)
  • Indication: FUNGICIDE
b. Fluxapyroxad

Fluxapyroxad Structure

  • Description: Fluxapyroxad is a broad-spectrum pyrazole-carboxamide fungicide used on a large variety of commercial crops. It stunts fungus growth by inhibiting the succinate dehydrogenase (SQR) enzyme. Application of fluxapyroxad helps prevent many wilts and other fungal infections from taking hold. As with other systemic pesticides that have a long chemical half-life, there are concerns about keeping fluxapyroxad out of the groundwater, especially when combined with pyraclostrobin.  There is also concern that some fungi may develop resistance to fluxapyroxad.
  • IUPAC: 3-(difluoromethyl)-1-methyl-N-[2-(3,4,5-trifluorophenyl)phenyl]pyrazole-4-carboxamide
  • Mechanism of Action (MOA): Mitochondrial electron transport inhibition (MET II) by inhibition of succinate dehydrogenase (SDHI, complex II).
  • CAS RN: 907204-31-3
  • CHEMICAL CLASS: Fungicides (Pyrazolecarboxamide Fungicides) [1]
  • Indication: FUNGICIDE

In Germany, sugar beetroot is planted on over 400,000 hectares. It creates sugar from CO2 and water, produces excellent yields, and is crucial for a successful crop rotation.
The most dangerous leaf disease is Cercospora, which can reduce output by up to 50% on its own.
Every year, crop failures are caused by Cercospora infestation as well as infestations with rust, ramularia, and powdery mildew. With its distinctive blend of active substances, Diadem’s notably all-encompassing action and durable effect aid in the treatment of several illnesses.
