Summary :
Syngenta revealed two new combination product to assist growers manage weeds in their corn and soybean fields at Commodity Classic on March 10 – Tendovo soybean herbicide and Acuron corn herbicide approved by USEPA – as weeds become more difficult to control and resistance spread,
Tendovo, Syngenta’s new pre-emergence soybean herbicide, was approved by the Environmental Protection Agency in mid-February, and Pete Eure, Syngenta’s technical product lead, said the business is quite happy about it.
“We’re particularly pleased about Tendovo going forward,” he said, “because it provides that broad range weed control that producers are seeking for.”
Tendovo eliminates early-season weeds but does not slow down soybean growth, which is one of the most noticeable features for growers.
Tendovo controls more than 70 yield-robbing weeds with three sites of action, and growers who use it can accomplish not just early-season weed control and crop protection, but also a high potential yield at harvest, independent of the production method, soil type, or region.
“In field experiments with Tendovo, we’ve seen a 4-5 bushel per acre advantage,” Eure added. “Tendovo helps growers achieve greater potential yield and return on investment at harvest by suppressing the tough weeds that compete with soybeans for sunlight, water, and nutrients.”
About Tendovo soybean herbicide
With three sites of action, Tendovo herbicide combines unprecedented weed control and crop safety to deliver higher potential yield in soybeans. Compatible with any soybean production system and soil type, Tendovo provides a sound defense against more than 70 yield-robbing weeds.
Active Ingredients:
S-metolachlor, Metribuzin, Cloransulam-methyl

- Mechanism of Action (MOA): Acetolactate Synthase (ALS) or Acetohydroxy Acid Synthase (AHAS) Inhibitors
- Indication: HERBICIDE
- CAS RN: 147150-35-4
- The methyl ester of cloransulam. An inhibitor of acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS), it prevents the synthesis of amino acids in plants
b. Metribuzin
- IUPAC: 4-amino-6-tert-butyl-3-methylsulfanyl-1,2,4-triazin-5-one
- CAS RN: 21087-64-9
- Mechanism of Action (MOA): Inhibitor Of Photosynthesis At Photosystem II Site A
- Indication: HERBICIDE
- Metribuzin is an herbicide used both pre- and post-emergence in crops including soy bean, potatoes, tomatoes and sugar cane.
- It acts by inhibiting photosynthesis by disrupting photosystem II.
- It is widely used in agriculture and has been found to contaminate groundwater.
c. S-metolachlor
- IUPAC: 2-chloro-N-(2-ethyl-6-methylphenyl)-N-[(2S)-1-methoxypropan-2-yl]acetamide
- CAS RN:87392-12-9
- Mechanism of Action (MOA): VLCFA synthesis inhibition (very long chain fatty acid). The mode of action for this class is predominantly inhibition of very long chain fatty acids.
- Indication: HERBICIDE
- Metolachlor is an organic compound that is widely used as an herbicide. It is a derivative of aniline
- It is highly effective toward grasses.
Tendovo was proven to give greater than 95 percent control of pigweeds and grass weeds in a total of 15 head-to-head duplicated trials at five weeks following emergence when compared to competitive herbicides.
For corn growers, Acuron corn herbicide from Syngenta combines four active ingredients with three complementary modes of action for control of broadleaf and grass weeds in corn.
About Acuron corn herbicide
- Only Acuron outperforms and outyields all other corn herbicides. With four effective herbicide active ingredients (AIs), including the unique component bicyclopyrone, Acuron® provides season-long weed control to help fully protect your corn’s yield potential.
Active Ingredients:
S-metolachlor, Atrazine*, Mesotrione, Bicyclopyrone
a. S-metolachlor
- IUPAC: 2-chloro-N-(2-ethyl-6-methylphenyl)-N-[(2S)-1-methoxypropan-2-yl]acetamide
- CAS RN:87392-12-9
- Mechanism of Action (MOA): VLCFA synthesis inhibition (very long chain fatty acid). The mode of action for this class is predominantly inhibition of very long chain fatty acids.

b. Atrazine
- IUPAC: 6-chloro-4-N-ethyl-2-N-propan-2-yl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine
- CAS RN: 1912-24-9
- Mechanism of Action (MOA): Contact Action Involving Carbohydrate Metabolism, Inhibits Starch Accumulation By Blocking Sugar Production
Indication: HERBICIDE - Atrazine is a herbicide of the triazine class.
c. Mesotrione
- IUPAC:2-(4-methylsulfonyl-2-nitrobenzoyl)cyclohexane-1,3-dione
- Mechanism of Action (MOA): Inhibitor Of 4-Hydroxyphenyl-Pyruvatedioxygenase (4-Hppd).
CAS RN: 104206-82-8 - Indication: HERBICIDE
- Mesotrione is the ISO common name for an organic compound that is used as a selective herbicide, especially in maize.
d. Bicyclopyrone
- IUPAC: (1S,5R)-3-[hydroxy-[2-(2-methoxyethoxymethyl)-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl]methylidene]bicyclo[3.2.1]octane-2,4-dione
- CAS RN: 352010-68-5
- Mechanism of Action (MOA): Inhibitor Of 4-Hydroxyphenyl-Pyruvatedioxygenase (4-Hppd).
- Indication: HERBICIDE
- Bicyclopyrone belongs to the hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) inhibitor class of herbicides (Herbicide Resistance Action Committee (HRAC) group F2). Bicyclopyrone acts by blocking the function of HPPD required for producing essential compounds for carotenoid pigments.
“Acuron is an incredible pre-emergent herbicide for corn,” said Keith Burnell, agronomic service representative for Syngenta. “One of the things you’re going to notice about Acuron is the power it has for season-long control.”
Among the many product benefits, Acuron helps achieve yield potential by keeping fields clean; offers built-in resistance management with four active ingredients and three modes of action; includes bicyclopyrone for enhanced activity against lamb’s quarters and common ragweed; has excellent control over waterhemp; and offers flexible application timing from pre-emergence to the six-leaf stage of corn.
