Flumioxazin is a benzoxazine that is N-(prop-2-yn-1-yl)-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one which is substituted at position 6 by a 1,3-dioxo-1,3,4,5,6,7-hexahydro-2H-isoindol-2-yl group and at position 7 by a fluorine. A protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitor, it is used for the control of weeds in soya, peanuts, and a variety of vegetable and fruit crops. It has a role as a herbicide, an agrochemical, an EC 18.104.22.168 (protoporphyrinogen oxidase) inhibitor and a teratogenic agent. It is a benzoxazine, a terminal acetylenic compound, a dicarboximide and an organofluorine compound.
Flumioxazin is a herbicide active ingredient that can work that is used as an agricultural or aquatic herbicide. It is systemic, meaning it can be applied to foliage or root and be absorbed and move throughout the target plant.
Flumioxazin is a yellow to slightly brown solid that is practically insoluble in water. Flumioxazin can work as both a pre-emergent or post-emergent herbicide and has been used to treat annual bluegrass and other warm-season turfgrasses on golf courses.
Mode of Action (MOA):
Flumioxazin works by inhibition of protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO), an enzyme that is important for the synthesis of chlorophyll . In other words, flumioxazin causes interference and halts the plants’ production of chlorophyll. Treated plants will respond quickly to treatment and rapidly decompose.
Uses of Flumioxazin:
Flumioxazin is versatile in that it can be used as both a pre-emergent and post-emergent form of control on weeds and crops both on land and in aquatic sites.
Flumioxazin controls a broad-spectrum of invasive and problematic aquatic plants such as Eurasian watermilfoil and curlyleaf pondweed. It may also affect desirable native species, such as coontail, duckweeds, filamentous algae and native milfoil.
Drawbacks of Flumioxazin:
Flumioxazin only works best when the active ingredient is applied to young weeds in their very early stage as a post-emergent or pre-emergently before the seeds have sprouted. It’s efficacy lessens the more mature a plant is.
Flumioxazin is non-selective and will harm any plant that comes into contact with it. If desired plants are in close proximity with weeds, you will need to be extra careful with you application.
Safety of Flumioxazin:
Flumioxazin is safe to use when applied according to label directions. Always read the product label for safety instructions in handling Flumioxazin
While Flumioxazin is safe to use, we do recommend exercising caution when handling Flumioxazin products (or any other chemical we have in stock) to wear protective safety equipment such as a protective mask, gloves, and goggles as well as long sleeve clothing to ensure you will be safe
